The Montana Standard Saturday October 22, 1955 Page 12 The funeral for the late Alma Marie Smith will take place from the Daly-Shea Chapel this afternoon at 1 o'clock, with the Rev. James C. Hold officiating. Interment in Mountain View Cemetery. The Montana Standard Wednesday October 19, 1955 Page 1 Mrs. Alma Smith, 49, Lloyd Clark, 57, Die; Man is Injured A speeding auto hurtled into an embankment near the Mining City and two Butte residents were smashed to death in the shattered car last Tuesday afternoon. One man escaped alive but is in serious condition. Alma Marie Smith, 49, of 1953 Walnut and Lloyd Garner Clark 57, of 503 S. Wyoming, were killed almost instantly in the bone-crushing smashup, marring the beautiful Indian Summer day. John F. Rolcke, 38, of 109 E. Broadway, is in Butte Community Memorial Hospital with a broken leg, possible internal injuries and other hurts. He is believed to have been the driver of the death car. No one witnessed the accident, but investigators believe the late model sedan was speeding east on the new Silver Bow cutoff highway when the driver realized, too late, that he could not made the turn onto U.S. Highway 91. The sedan skidded 147 feet on the new asphalt access highway, hurtled across the Butt-Dillon highway and slammed into a 15 feet dirt embankment. The bodies of Clark and Mrs. Smith were thrown from the vehicle. Mrs. Smith had been a Mining City resident about 15 years and at times had worked in various cafes as a waitress. She returned to Butte only recently from Billings, where she was a waitress. Mrs. Smith had been living with a son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. James W. Jones of 1953 Walnut, it was reported. Mrs. Joes identified the body in Daly-Shea Mortuary. Sheriff's deputies said Mrs. Jones reported she left her mother uptown Tuesday morning and Mrs. Smith reported she was going to look for a job as a waitress. Clark had worked as a miner in recent years and has been in and out of Butte quite a bit one acquaintance said. He was born in Little Rock, Ark., Aug. 3, 1898. Selective Service cards showed he had registered with the draft board in Littleton, Colo., and he was known once to have an address of Box 4, Deer Lodge. Besides Mr. and Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Smith is survived by two other daughters, Mrs. Bernice Lubke and Mrs. Darlene Way, both of Lincoln, Neb. The girls' father is dead.
