Funeral services for Dr. Milton Gene Wofford, 93, of Missouri City, TX, will be 10 AM Friday, May 10, 2024, at Sugar Land Baptist Church, 16755 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land, TX 77479. Dr. Wofford was born September, 23, 1930 in Wichita Falls, TX, and he passed away May 5, 2024, in Sugar Land, TX. Life Accomplishments Born in Wichita Falls, Texas, September 1930 Moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico as an infant and grew up there Attended New Mexico A & M, 1948 - 1950 Transferred to Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, graduated with B.A., 1952 While at HSU won the "Lights That Never Fail" writing contest Met Dorothy Jean Brod at HSU and married in 1953 Attended Southwestern Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas, for his Masters' of Divinity and Th.D Pastored Long Lake Baptist Church while in seminary Pastored First Baptist Church Heights, Houston, upon graduation from seminary Served as the Moderator for the Union Baptist Association, early 1960's Served on the Baptist Sunday School Board, 1968 – 1975 Served on the Executive Board of the Baptist General Convention of Texas Served with the Billy Graham Association in the New Life Movement evangelistic effort in Japan, preaching twice a day and visiting homes between services to share the gospel Pastored First Baptist Church, Nederland, Texas Pastored East Grand Baptist Church, Dallas, Texas, and developed the first multi-campus church in the United States Taught as Professor of Christianity in the Theology Dept. at Houston Baptist University for almost 40 years, named as Professor Emeritus, and authored the "Basic Bible Beliefs" textbook In his honor, the Gene Wofford Endowed Academic Scholarship was established at HBU Won the Distinguished Alumni Award from Hardin-Simmons University for outstanding leadership from an HSU graduate Served as interim pastor at numerous churches for almost 30 years Taught the senior adult Sunday School class at Sugar Land Baptist Church for many years Preached on Thursday mornings at The Avenues of Fort Bend for the residents of the assisted living facility where he resided the last year and a half of his life, serving his precious Jesus all the way to the end May 5, 2024, went to be with his Lord & Savior Philippians 2:5-11 5 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, as He already existed in the form of God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself by taking the form of a bond-servant and being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death: death on a cross. 9 For this reason also God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
