Smith Married 2nd - Robert Luther Denham ========== The following undated newspaper clipping is from the scrapbook of the late Mrs. Alice Rowland McClendon, younger sister of Mrs. Selina Rowland Smith Denham. This book is in the possession of Mrs. McClendon's granddaughter Mrs. Fay Newton: IN MEMORY. On June 8, 1905, the saddest incident happened to my life, the death of my dear mother Mrs. J. L. Denham. She had lived in Ft. Worth about one month and had not been sick but very little and did seem to be so happy as we were all together, and spoke so many times of how pleasant it was for her and me to be together, as we had been separated so much. And it seemed so hard to give her up, as we were getting so we could be so happy. But I try to think the Lord doeth all things for the best. She was not a member of the church at the time of her death, but had spoken of her Christian duties so much in her last days, and I believe she intended to rejoin when able. She leaves three girls to live a motherless life, two of whom are in the Orphan's Home in this place. The other, myself, is working. My dear friends and relatives back there don't forget to pray for us three girls with no mother to guide us aright. It nearly breaks my heart to know that my little sisters, one six, the other two, will never realize a kind mother's loving care. Her life was for her children. Little did I think when I kissed her good-bye to go to my work at 4:30, I'd be called in less than two hours, and before I could reach home she was gone, could never speak or call my name again on earth. How can I speak of you, mamma, gone from my sight forever, the one I loved so dearly, but God knows best. I have only Him to look to for comfort. Dear mamma, if you are at rest, which I think you are, I don't wish you back, 'tis hard to give you up, but our loss is Heaven's gain. We know you have loved ones there to greet you. Dear mamma, they have laid you where there's rest and peace beyond. And we feel you've gone to glory. Where we all someday may come. Her Daughter Kate - Ft.
