Morris Martell Simons, 77, of Spanish Fork, died on Saturday, November 24, 2007 at Utah Valley Speciality Hospital of Pulmonary Hypertention and Diabetes. He was born on June 29, 1930 to Florence Martell and Harold O. Simons in Provo, Utah. When he was a small boy his family moved to Spanish Fork where he spent the rest of his life. He graduated from Spanish Fork High School in 1948 and began working at the Pacific States Cast Iron Pipe Company with his father. He spent 34 years of his life in their employment, with just a short break while he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On June 19, 1952 he married Luan Elizabeth Meldrum in the Manti LDS Temple. During the next 24 years they became the parents of 12 children, 8 boys and 4 girls, 6 of whom have served missions for the LDS Church and 9 have been endowed in the LDS Temple. Morris was a gentle giant who attained most of his 6'5" frame in Jr. High School. He loved to hunt and fish. He also loved the gospel and strived all of his life to do the will of his father in heaven. He was slow to anger and held no ill will to any man. Everything he had, spiritually, economically and socially was devoted to his wife and family. Besides his pipe plant job he farmed, ran a large chicken ranch, developed a sub division, owned a restaurant and supported his wife in any project she endeavored to try. He also served in the church as ward clerk, Sunday school first counselor, nursery leader, home teacher, and maintenance man. He and his wife served a full time proselyting mission in the Charleston, West Virginia Mission from 1998-2000. His nature was shy and retiring and his greatest love was his family. He was an honest, hard-working man who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Luan, children: Fred (Kathy); Grant (Dawnetta); Robert; Glen (Linda); Karen (Paul) Christensen; Kent (Deanna); Sharon (Jim) Connolly; Gary; Blaine (Wanda); Lisa S. Johnson; Jennifer (Mace) Hansen; 36 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; Brothers: Quay (Carol) Simons; Harold (Peggy) Simons; Jarold (Nancy) Simons; Sisters: Joyce (Ralph) Pitts, and Carolyn (Russell) Boyack. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and brother-in-law; June and Kenneth Taylor; a son-in-law Jeremiah K. Johnson, and his 12th child, Gregory, who died as a toddler. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at 11 a.m. in the Spanish Fork East Stake Center, 870 East Canyon Road, Spanish Fork. Friends may call on the family Tuesday, November 27, 2007 from 6 til 8 p.m. at the Walker Mortuary, 187 S. Main, Spanish Fork, or from 9:45 a.m til 10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Burial will be in the Spanish Fork City Cemetery. Published in the Daily Herald on 11/26/2007.
