Verna Jean Jurgensen December 2, 1937 ~ August 8, 2021 Verna Jean Jurgensen 83, of Girard, KS formally of Cherokee, KS died 7:02pm Sunday August 8, 2021 at the Westridge Assisted Living Center in Girard, KS following an illness. Verna was born December 2, 1937 in Ord, Nebraska to Harry and Irene (Burson) Plock. She graduated from Burwell High School in Burwell, Nebraska and later attended Business School for 1 year. On June 9, 1957 Verna married Harold Wayne Jurgensen in New York; he preceded her in death on August 8, 2007. Verna worked at Weir Elementary School; Pronto Convenient Store in Cherokee, KS and Walmart in Pittsburg, KS and Grove, OK. Verna was a former member of the Cherokee United Methodist Church; a 4-H Leader; avid reader; enjoyed crocheting; cleaning and enjoyed preparing large meals for family and friends. Survivors include her children Sherry Hoopingarner and husband Tom of Sioux City, IA, Gary Jurgensen of Aurora, MO, Mary Ann Ulery and husband Ralph of Scammon, KS and Larry Jurgensen and wife Judy of Uniontown, KS; siblings Ross Plock and wife Karolee of Burwell, NB, Paul Plock and wife Judy of Burwell, NB, Roger Plock of South Carolina and Lila Schmidt of Omaha, NB; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Verna was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother George Plock and sister Beverly Kirby. Private Graveside Services will be Wednesday August 11, 2021 at the Cherokee Cemetery in Cherokee, KS with Larry Jurgensen officiating. Informal Visitation will be from 12-5:00pm Tuesday August 10, 2021 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg, KS.
