Fort Bend Herald, July 27, 2021: Wilbur Lee Hein, 81, of Rosenberg, Texas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 22, 2021. Wilbur was born June 6, 1940 in Rosenberg, Texas to Ed (E.P.) and Evelyn Hein. He had one brother, Leonard "Todda". Wilbur was a well-known football player on the Mighty Mustang football team at Lamar Consolidated High School. Wilbur was such an asset to the football team that on more than one occasion, Wilbur lost his contacts on the field which stopped the game so they could find them. In addition to his football victories, Wilbur lettered in basketball and track. Wilbur Lee Hein married Frances Duncan on April 29, 1962 in Sweeny, TX. The two shared 56 years together and were blessed with two sons, Paul Duncan and Gregory Lee. Wilbur assisted Frances with The Little Red Caboose, a small private Kindergarten. He was a member of The First Christian Church in Rosenberg where he served as an Elder and leading ministry and communion services to those in assisted living/nursing home facilities. He helped start the Roughneck football program, including serving as a coach and manager of the Mustangs and Blue Sox in Rosenberg Little League baseball, and was Babe Ruth League volunteer. Wilbur attended Wharton County Junior College and played on the Pioneer football team. It was here that he met Frances Duncan and began their long journey together. He then played a short stint at Tarleton State where he was awarded a scholarship. Wilbur was a big, strong man with a loving and inspiring heart. He was an encouraging voice to his sons and grandchildren in their educational and athletic pursuits. Wilbur began his working career with the State of Texas Highway Department and then moved to Gulf States Tube (GST). During his over 35 years at Gulf States, he worked in production and as a foreman. After retiring, he focused on property management services, gardening, fishing, Frances' antiques and spending time at their place in New Ulm. Wilbur enjoyed visiting with family and friends, watching his grandkids (Huckleberries) play sports, hosting wiener roasts, cooking Chili, and antiquing. Wilbur is preceded in death by his wife, Frances, and his parents, Ed and Evelyn Hein. He is survived by his son, Paul Duncan Hein and wife, Sandra; son, Gregory Lee Hein and wife, Joy; grandchildren, Sean Hein and wife, Candice, Kaleigh Herrera and husband, Scooter, Morgan Hein, Nicholas Hein and wife, Brittany, and Noelle Hein; great-grandchildren, Christopher Hein, Lance Lemos, Carlee Hein, Scarlett Hein, Cash Hein, Brooks Herrera, Carson Herrera; and nieces and nephews; and brother, Leonard Hein and wife, Jan.
