Bio

PEORIA JOURNAL STAR, WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 3, 1921 JAMES L. TWIGG, 81, IS DEAD FOLLOWING LINGERLING ILLNESS James L. Twigg, age 81, of 415 East Washington Street, East Peoria, died at 8:29 o'clock this morning at his home, after a lingering illness. Mr. Twigg came to this vicinity about 60 years ago and since that time has resided here. Five daughters and two sons survive. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon at the residence. Burial will be in the East Peoria cemetery. Obituary of James Lewis Twiggs from The Sargent Leader August 11, 1921 We told our readers last week of the going to east Peoria, Illinois, of Earl Twiggs and his sister Mrs. John Forte, because of the serious illiness of their father James L. Twiggs, a Civil War Veteran and an early settler here, having come to this section of the country about the year 1881. Wednesday August 3rd, 1921, at 6:20 a.m. Mr. Twiggs passed away at his home at 915 East Washington Street, East Peoria, Illinois, aged 81 years, 1 month and 7 days. The funeral was held at the residence Friday after noon August 5th and interment was made in Fondulac Cemetery. Mr. Twiggs is survived by his wife and two sons and five daughters as follows: Mrs. H. M. (Mary) Coltrane of Sargent, Nebraska. Mrs. Anton (Myrtle) Guggenmos of Ord, Nebraska. Mrs. John (Cora) Forte, of Sargent, Nebraska. Mrs. Arthur (Nellie) Bisco and Mrs. John (Mattie) Hilgers both of East Peoria, Illinois. Earl Twiggs about nine miles northwest of Sargent, Nebraska, and Henry Twiggs of Waterloo, Washington. For many years Mr. Twiggs resided and owned a farm between three and four miles North of Sargent. This farm is now owned and occupied by Oliver Butler and family. A number of years ago Mr. Twiggs sold this farm and moved to Peoria, Illinois where they lived before coming to Nebraska. We are clipping a few paragraphs from the notice of his death, published in The East Peoria Post. "Uncle Jim Twigg had the honor of being East Peoria's oldest inhabintant . He was born on the old Leadley farm. During those 81 years of his active life he saw many changes here. "His war record was something he never advertised, but he was the first to go and the last to come home. He first joined the 17th and then changed to the 108th. Uncle Jim was a quite unassuming man, but always true blue."
