A Memorial Service for Joseph L. "Joe" Spale, 70, of Schuyler, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday May 24, 2013 at the Svoboda Funeral Home South Chapel. Military Honors will be performed by McLeod Post #47 of the American Legion and Hespen-Mitchell Post 4836 of the V.F.W. Joe passed away Monday, May 20th at his home in Schuyler. Cremation - no visitation. Joe was born May 25, 1942 in Clarkson, NE to Joseph E and Bridget (Tajchman) Spale. He attended Schuyler High School. Joe served in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1967. Joe was a member of the Catholic Church. He was employed by International Harvester and later worked at Cargill. On May 27, 1967, Joe married Gwen Stewart in Columbus. Joe enjoyed farming, fishing, helping his neighbors and was a tremendous "shade-tree mechanic". Joe is survived by his wife, Gwen and sons Stacey and Bradley, all of Schuyler; brothers Don of Columbus, Tom (Judy) of Schuyler, Terry (Sherri) of Schuyler, Fred (Pam) of Fremont and Duane (Janet) of Grand Island; sisters Judy (Leonard) Svoboda of Omaha and Pat Svoboda of Iowa; granddaughter KatLeigh Spale; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Gerald and Kenneth, brother-in-law Ed Svoboda and sister-in-law Mary Spale.
