The Schuyler Sun (Schuyler, Nebraska) 29 Apr 1937, Thu Page 8 Joseph B. Hines, 54, former resident of Saunders county and of Wahoo, and for a short time one of the operators of a movie theater in this city, passed away at his home in Leigh at an early hour Tuesday morning after an illness of several months. Mr. and Mrs. Hines had returned from Rochester, Minn., the preceding Tuesday where Mr. Hines was under the care of a specialist at the Mayo clinic. He and Miss Lillian Ruzicka were united in marriage at Schuyler, Oct. 3, 1905. The widow, a daughter, Mrs. Gale McMasters of Wisner, two sisters, Mrs. James Cherny and Mrs. Frank Ruzicka, both of North Bend, a brother, Frank A. Hines of Morse Bluff, and two grandchildren, Larry and Ronald McMasters of Wisner, survive. Mr. Hines was born in Saunders county near Morse Bluff, March 6, 1883. It was here that his boyhood days and the days of his younger manhood were spent on the farm. Mr. and Mrs. Hines resided on a farm in Saunders county until 1916 when they moved to Wahoo. Mr. Hines served as county assessor of Saunders county for four years and was county clear seven and a half years. he resigned as county clerk to accept the appointment as postmaster of Wahoo which position he held for 12 years, until 1935, when he and his wife moved to Leigh. they made their home in Leigh the past year and a half. Mr. Hines assisted in the organization of the Bank of Leigh and was cashier of the institution until recently when he disposed of his interests. Since that time he had given his time and attention to the recovery of his health. Funeral services were held this Thursday morning at 9 o'clock at the late residence in Leigh, Rev. B.A. Filipi of Clarkson and Rev. E.J. Nickerson of Wahoo, Presbyterian pastors, officiating. The remains were take overland to Omaha and placed in a mausoleum in West Lawn cemetery.
