Kathryn Marie "Kathy" Kyhn, 84, of Grand Island passed away on Thursday, April 1, 2021. A memorial service and celebration of Kathryn's life will be held at a later date at All Faiths Funeral Home. Kathryn was born February 16, 1937 in Cotesfield, NE, the daughter of James and Lizzie (Duester) Szwanek. She grew up in Elba, graduating from Elba High School, class of 1955. On June 16, 1955 she married Monty R. Kyhn. Following their marriage, the couple made their home and raised their family in Grand Island. When her children were small, she worked for Bartz Floral arranging floral pieces, a job she loved. Later, for many years until her retirement, she was employed at Shopko. In addition to her flowers, Kathryn enjoyed gardening and she was an avid reader. She especially cherished the time spent with her granddaughters. Survivors include her daughter, Lori (Dave) Medlin of Grand Island; son, Andy (Niki) Kyhn of Virginia Beach, VA; three beloved granddaughters, Kirsten and Alyssa Medlin and Avery Kyhn; sisters, Sylvia Chelewski of Grand Island and Rose Marie (Paul) Kielian of Omaha; and sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Szwanek of North Platte and Millie Szwanek of Mullen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Monty in 2017; her parents; sister, Verna Nabity; three brothers, Frank, Edwin and Adrian; and brother-in-law, Ron Chelewski.
