Bio

Frank Szwanek age 95 of Mullen, NE passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at the Pioneer Memorial Rest Home in Mullen, NE. Frank Peter Szwanek was born on August 19, 1924 at Elba, Nebraska to James and Lizzie (Duester) Szwanek. Frank grew up in the Elba and Cotesfield areas. He graduated from Cotesfield High School in 1943. Frank enlisted in the US Army on November 27, 1943 and was discharged on April 15, 1946. While in the service he was stationed in Newfoundland. After his service to our country Frank went to Boyle College in Omaha. He learned Morse Code. In 1950, Frank went to work for the CB&Q Railroad. He worked out of Seneca. On May 10, 1952 he was married to Mildred Prentice at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mullen. Frank worked for 18 years for the railroad retiring in 1968. Since Frank wasn’t one to sit still, he continued his TV repair business full time and also did electrical work. Frank enjoyed getting his pilot’s license, playing baseball, softball, and tinkering on anything electrical. Frank is survived by his wife Mildred of Mullen, a daughter Janice (Jerry) Grummert of Beatrice, a son Michael (Jennifer) Szwanek of Lincoln; five grandsons, Daniel (Jennifer) Grummert of Lexington and their daughter Karsyn, Benjamin (fiancé Lauren) Grummert of Denver, CO, Nicholas (Nicole) Grummert of Lincoln and their son Lane, Grant Szwanek of McLean, VA, and Garrett Szwanek of Lincoln. He is also survived by a brother Ed Szwanek of Evanston, WY, three sisters; Katherine Kyhn and Sylvia Chelewski both of Grand Island and Rosemarie (Paul) Keilian of Omaha, and a sister-in-law Mary Szwanek of North Platte. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Adrian “Herb”, sister Verna (Leo) Nabity, sister-in-law Pamela Szwanek, and brothers-in-laws Monte Kyhn and Ron Chelewski.
