Banner Press (David City, Nebr.), January 27, 1983, p. 1B, col. 2 James J. Stara, 91, services conducted Tuesday morning Services for James J. Stara, 91, Rt. 2, Ulysses, were conducted Tuesday morning, Jan. 25, from Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ulysses. Mr. Stara died Sunday, Jan. 23, at David Place following a lingering illness. Officiating at Ulysses was Msgr. George Schuster. A son-in-law, Gene Coufal, was commentator and James L. Stara, a grandson, was lector. Offertory and gift bearers were granddaughters, Janet Stara and Patricia Siroky. Father Daniel Pohl officiated at the graveside services at St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery, Bruno. Among the relatives coming from a distance to attend the services were those from Pacifica, Calif., West Lafayette, Ind., Atwood, Kansas, York, Lincoln and Omaha. James J. Stara, one of 12 children of Vaclav and Anna Dobry Stara, was born Sept. 19, 1891, at Bruno. He attended grade school and high school at Bruno, and also attended Midland College in Fremont. On April 10, 1923, he was married at Bruno to Mary M. Pecha. Ten children were born to this union. When the Staras observed their 50th anniversary in 1973, they received a special apostolic blessing from Pope Paul VI. They farmed in the Bruno area, and moved to an acreage near Ulysses when they retired. Mr. Stara was a member of Immaculate Conception Church of Ulysses. He is survived by his wife, Mary; ten children, Marcella Stara of Omaha, Albin Stara of David City, Adeline Jakub of Bruno, Delores Coufal of David City, Eugene Stara of Brainard, Martha Glynn of Pacifica, Calif., Donald Stara of Seward, Celestine Siroky of Linwood, Kenneth Stara of Rising City, and Ernest Stara of Bruno; one brother, Raymond of Schuyler; one sister, Mrs. Helen McDaniel of Omaha; and 31 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Larry Stara, seven sisters and two brothers.
