The Banner-Press (David City, Nebr.), May 30, 1963, p. 7B, col. 7 & 8 SERVICES HELD FOR MRS. MARY KASTL Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Kastl, 75, were held on Saturday morning, May 25, from St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Bruno, the Rev. Father Sladky offering the requiem high Mass at 9:30 a.m. Burial was in St. Anthony's Cemetery. The pallbearers were nephews, Ray Fujan, George Kubr, Jr., Ellis Proskovec, Richard Janak, Leander Stara and Albin Stara. She had been ill since suffering a stroke on Feb. 5, 1963, and had been a patient in the David City hospital for two months, then was taken to Plummer's Rest Home in Schuyler, where she died on May 22. Mary, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vaclac (Anna Dobry) Stara was born on a farm near Bruno on Jan. 26, 1888. Her marriage to Jacob Kastl was solemnized in St. Anthony's Church in Bruno May 10, 1911. Her married life was lived on a farm 7½ miles southeast of Bruno in Saunders County, and after her husband's death, with her sons on the same farm. They were the parents of two sons, Joseph L. of Bruno and Theopahl of San Francisco, Calif., both of whom survive. On her retirement she made her home with her son, Joseph L. and Mrs. Kastl on the family farm, except for three years spent in San Francisco, Calif. Preceding her in death were her husband and one sister, Mrs. Frank (Bessie) Janak of Brainard. Also surviving are four brothers, James, Joseph, Stanley and Ray Stara of Bruno; six sisters, Mrs. Frank (Rose) Bartunek of Abie, Mrs. Joseph L. (Anna) Proskovec of Bruno, Mrs. Frank (Agnes) Vap of Atwood, Kans., Mrs. Joseph (Clara) Fujan of Prague and Mrs. George (Louise) Kubr of Prague and Mrs. Albert (Helen) McDaniel of Wahoo; seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, Stevie, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Kucera of Bruno, who was born in the David City Hospital when his great-grandmother was also a patient there. Among those from a distance in attendance at the funeral were Theophal Kastl and sons, Darrell and Jerome of San Francisco, Calif., and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Vap of Atwood, Kans.
