Lenora Laverne (Whisenhunt) Elmore, of Shawnee, OK, passed from this life on February 27, 2021, at the age of 94. She was born July 29, 1926, in Burneyville, OK to Maudie & George Whisenhunt. She married Thurman Elmore, Sr. in 1947. Lenora is survived by her son, Thurman Elmore, Jr., and wife, Cindy; daughters, Juanita Elmore, Carol Miller, Claudia Colungo, Virginia VanPay, and Kecia Keeling; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces, and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thurman Elmore, Sr.; her daughter, Linda Vance; son, Hollis “Sonny” Benton; daughter-in-law, Glenda Benton; grandson, Billy Vance; and great-great-grandson, Jaxon Woods. Lenora was an active member of the Nazarene Church. She loved teaching children about the Lord, and she taught the Word of God for over 50 years as the children’s Sunday School teacher. She loved spending time in her garden watching the hummingbirds and tending to her roses. Lenora loved cooking and was an excellent cook. She loved to spend time with family and enjoyed playing with her grandkids and great-grandkids. The family would like to give a special thanks to Angelic Hospice. Visitation will be held from 3:00-8:30 PM, Thursday, March 4th at the John M. Ireland Funeral Home, 120 South Broadway, in Moore, OK. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, March 5, 2021, at the Shawnee Church of the Nazarene, 401 N. Market Ave., Shawnee, OK. Interment to follow at Prairie View Cemetery, Macomb, OK. Services are under the direction of the John M. Ireland Funeral Home & Chapel.
