Frank V. Spanhel Jr., 74, of LittleRiver-Academy, died Sunday, December 5, 2010 in a Temple hospital. Cremation services have been entrusted to Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home of Temple. Frank was born June 4, 1936 in Temple, TX to Frank V. Spanhel and Eleonora Shiller Spanhel. He was raised and educated in Academy where he graduated from high school in 1954. He served in the National Guard. Frank graduated from AMC (now Texas A&M) with a Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1959 and with a Masters in 1963. He worked in the aircraft industry as a design engineer until 1972, at which time he joined Academy Welding as a partner with his brother and father. He continued with Academy Welding until he was forced to retire due to health reasons. Mr. Spanhel was a long time Sports Official and a life member of the NRA. Survivors include one brother, Jimmie Spanhel of Holland and two sisters; Betty Sitz of LittleRiver-Academy, and Pat Ramthun of Gatesville. Arrangements under the direction of Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, Temple, TX.
