Catherine “Cathy” Belcher has gone to meet her Lord. Cathy passed away peacefully, Saturday, March 25, 2017, in Mesquite, Texas. She was 89 years old. She was born in Hawkins, Texas. She attended and graduated from Big Sandy Schools. She was the sixth of seven children born to William L. and Charo Poole. She moved to Dallas in 1956 and worked for Sears, at the Lamar Street location. She married Jack Belcher, August 31, 1957. Jack and Cathy were faithful members of Calvary First Baptist Church from 1959 until the time of their passing. In 1965, Cathy began a 19-year career with the Mesquite School District working in the school lunch room. She worked at Wilkinson Middle School until 1970 and McWhorter Elementary School until her retirement in 1989. Cathy was a very athletic person. She grew up playing volleyball. She continued playing volleyball in Mesquite City Leagues and turned to softball later. Cathy played softball for her church team until she was 80 years old. She loved to cook, sew and travel. She was an avid football fan. She loved football no matter what level of competition. She attended Mesquite Skeeter football games from 1964 until 2015. She loved watching college and professional games, as well. It didn’t matter who was playing, she would watch. She was a true fan of the game. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, five brothers and a sister and son-in-law, Jack Anderson. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Glenna Blawat. She is survived by a son, Dean; a daughter Cynthia Anderson; son-in-law Wayne Blawat and grandchildren Misty Belcher, Max Blawat, Matt Blawat, Aaron Blawat, Blake Anderson and Dylan Anderson. She also had six great-grandchildren, several nephews and nieces and her beloved church family.
