Married to Lizzie Ruth Powers June 9, 1934. ∼ Transcription of Obituary from The Bryan Eagle, Dec 1992 John Clyde "Shorty" Powers Nov.5, 1913-Nov. 30, 1992 Funeral services for John Clyde "Shorty" Powers, 79 of Bryan, will be today at 3 p.m. at Hillier Funeral Home. The Rev. Larry Burkhalter of Steep Hollow Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Steep Hollow Cemetery. Visiting hours will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mr. Powers died Monday in Bryan. He was born and lived most of his life in Brazos County,. Mr. Powers was a retired plumber with M. D. Anderson Hospital in Houston. Family members said Mr. Powers will be remembered for loving his job and for his enthusiasm to succeed. Survivors include his wife, Lizzie Ruth Powers of Bryan; three sons, Nathan Powers of Houston, Don Powers of Steep Hollow and Elton Powers of Bryan; a brother, Lum Powers of Bryan; three sisters, Artie Barnett of Waco and Maudell Greer and Ina Browning, both of Bryan; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Steep Hollow Baptist Church, 7378 Steep Hollow Road, Bryan, 77803; or to a favorite charity.
