Jerry Matthew Strmiska passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2006 at Scott & White Hospital in Temple, Texas. Rosary will be recited by Belinda Ozuna from St. Mary's Catholic Church at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 24, 2006 at the Providence Funeral Home in Taylor, Texas. Celebration of Mass will be 3 p.m. on Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Taylor with Monsignor Lonnie Urban officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Taylor. Jerry was born September 15, 1934 to Joseph J. Strmiska and Mary Skrhak Strmiska in Granger, Texas. Jerry was employed with Kerr Ban Manufacturing Company and later with Taylor Meat Company. Later, he was self employed as a home builder/carpenter. He was a hard working man that always remained active. At the age of 14 he decided to join his daddy's band as a Bass Player. Afterwards he played the drums for both Louie Steffek and the Versatiles for 20 years and 15 years with Fritz Hodde and the Fabulous 6 + 2 and part time with other bands in the Taylor area. On September 25, 1955 he married Mary Ann Stefek in Granger, Texas by Monsignor Ben Mazwickiewiz. Jerry was raised in Granger, Texas area and moved to Taylor in 1955. He was a member of the K. J. T. lodge and as a Catholic Life Insurance member with St. Mary's Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Daniel Strmiska of Taylor and George Strmiska from Granger. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Mary Ann Stefek Strmiska of Taylor. Two daughters Betty Ann Naivar and husband James of Taylor, Linda Marie Strmiska of Georgetown and son Jason J. Strmiska of Round Rock, Texas and friend Corey Harbor and his dear pet dog named Dano. Two grandsons Brandon Wade Naivar and friend Tammy Cervenka and Dustin James Naivar all of Taylor. Brothers Frank Strmiska and wife Margie of Taylor, Clement Strmiska and wife Nancy of Granger, sisters Georgie Drozd of Temple, Frances Steffek of Elgin and Geraldine Schneider and husband Marvin of Bryan, Texas with numerous nephews and nieces. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Brandon Wade Naivar and Dustin James Naivar, nephew, Joseph Strmiska, nephews and God sons, Chris Steffek and James Schwertner and long time friend, John Hanson, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers are long time friend, Louis Ned and nephew, Daniel Steffek. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic School Trust Fund or to St. Mary's Catholic Church of Taylor.
