James Albert Smith November 23, 1942 - September 29, 2020 Born in Pioneer, Louisiana Resided in Pioneer, Louisiana James Albert Smith 11/23/1942 - 11/29/2020 James A. Smith was born on November 23, 1942 in the Bearskin Community near Pioneer, Louisiana; one of four children born to Albert and Heroise Thornton Smith. James lost his battle with Parkinson's and Covid-19 at the G. V. Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi on Tuesday, October 29, 2020. He served his country as Lance Corporal in the US Marine Corps, beginning in January 1966 during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in January of 1968. James was an 18-wheeler owner/operator truck driver. He got his start owning and driving custom cotton pickers. James was a hard working man and a self-taught shade tree mechanic, who seldom came inside except to eat, watch a little TV, and sleep before heading back out again. James enjoyed gardening, staying inside a little more and using new technology like his laptop and cell phone. He is preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Alissa Smith. James is survived by his three siblings; Roger Smith (Cindy) of St. Francisville, LA, Lindia Robinson of Monroe, LA and Wanda Baum (Jerry) of Gilbert, LA; along with his five children Lisa Arnold of West Covina, CA, Lorrie Watson (William) of Bastrop, LA, Brian Smith (Teresa) of Epps, LA, Erin Miller (Brandon) of Monroe, LA and Valerie Adam (SGM Tim Adam Ret.) of Dry Prong, LA. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren; Savanna Arnold, Will Watson Jr., Abigail Watson, Victoria Kendal (Michael), James Lewis Smith, Ashley Smith, 2LT Hannah Highum (1LT Cole Highum), Andrew Janes, Aidan Janes, Cooper Miller, Isabella Miller, Reid Miller, Ryder Miller, Bryce Croft and Ethan Croft. James is also survived by 6 great grandchildren; Olivia Watson, Westin Watson, Ella Watson, Adelyn Kendal, Gunner Kendal and James Lewis Smith Jr. Funeral services will be held at Cox Funeral Home in Delhi on Sunday, October 4, 2020 at 2:00 PM with Bro. Eddie Fuller officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday at Cox Funeral Home from 1:00 PM until time of services. Burial will follow services in the Epps Community Cemetery with Military Honors. Pallbearers will be James' grandsons.
