Grand Island (Nebraska) Daily Independent Tuesday, March 18, 1943 Mrs. Freeman Cole, 85, an early settler in the Doniphan community died yesterday afternoon at a local convalescent home. She had been ill for four months. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon in the Congregational church at Doniphan. The Rev. F. W. Leavitt will conduct the rites with burial in the family plot at Cedar View cemetery. Mrs. Cole, nee Alie Ellsworth, was born Feb. 13, 1858, near Peoria, Ill. and came to Nebraska in a covered wagon with her parents, who spent several years at Aurora (Nebraska). She married Freeman Cole at Sutton in 1875 and five years later they purchased a farm, 4 1/2 miles northeast of Doniphan, which was the family home for about 60 years. A son, Sidney Cole, Grand Island, was born of their marriage. Her husband died Feb. 10, 1937. Mrs. Cole was a member of the Congregational church at Doniphan and a member of the Royal Neighbors of America. Surviving, besides her son, are three grandchildren, six great grandchildren, two half-brothers, William Ellsworth of Oklahoma and Harry Ellsworth of Shelby, Neb., and a half-sister, Mrs. Margaret Butcher of Denver. obit courtesy of diaNEB (#47466150)
