Diane Marie Franzen November 21, 1936 ~ August 24, 2020 Diane Franzen, 83, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away Monday, August 24, 2020 at Unity Point Health – St. Luke's in Sioux City after a brief illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 29, 2020 at All Saints Catholic Parish – St. Joseph Church in Le Mars. Reverend Bruce Lawler will celebrate Mass. Social distancing and wearing a mask are required. Private family burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2020 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. There will be a Parish Rosary at 5:00 p.m. and a Scriptural Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Social distancing and wearing a mask are required. Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the church. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Diane Marie Hilger was born November 21, 1936 in Weston, Nebraska, the daughter of Harold and Frances (Novacek) Hilger. She attended school in Omaha and graduated from Notre Dame Academy in 1954. Following graduation, she went to work for St. Vincent's Hospital in Sioux City. She was united in marriage to Merlin Franzen on May 4, 1955 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Anthon, Iowa. They made their home in Le Mars, where Diane was a homemaker and assisted with the running of her husband's trucking business. After the death of her husband in 1980, Diane took a position as a nurse aide at the Good Samaritan Society in Le Mars. She remained employed at the nursing home until her retirement in 1995. Diane was blessed with a large family and stressed the importance of the Catholic faith on each of her children. She worked very hard and was proud of the fact that all of her children had the privilege to receive a Catholic education. She was longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars. She was very much devoted to the Blessed Mother and the rosary. She would say the rosary numerous times daily for her family and for anyone who requested her to pray for them. Grateful to have shared her life are her children: JoAnn Olson of Correctionville, IA, Jane Franzen of Cherokee, IA, Mark (Ann) Franzen of Monroeville, IN, Michael Franzen of Sioux City, IA, Mary Franzen of Sioux City, IA, Karen (Patrick) Crain of Dakota Dunes, SD, Tom (Angela) Franzen of Sioux City, IA, and Teresa (Craig) Henriks of Lawton, IA; 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; in laws: Sharon Hilger of Olathe, KS, Mary Lou Hanson of Omaha, NE, and Joyce Franzen of New Jersey; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Frances Hilger; her husband, Merlin on February 24, 1980; her sons: James, David, and Steve; a sister: Jane (Rome) Juarez; her brother: Robert Hilger; a son in law: Richard Olson; a nephew, Michael Hilger; and in laws: Ed and Arlyne Henrich and Bill Franzen.
