Cleola was the daughter of Grady Patrick and Allie Mae Parker Bridges. Her parents are also buried in Garden of Memories. She shares a stone with her husband, J. C. Searcy. Cleola was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. OBITUARY: Palestine (TX) Herald-Press, Thursday, 12 August 2004: Cleola Bridges Searcy Cleola Bridges Searcy, our beloved "Nana', 87, passed into the Light of our Savior on Tuesday, August 10th, 2004 at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. She was surrounded by her loving daughter, granddaughter, and grandson. Cleola was born to Allie Mae Parker and Grady Patrick Bridges on January 6th, 1917, and was a former resident of Elkhart before moving to Converse, Texas. She was married to J. C. Searcy for almost 59 years prior to his passing in February 2000. She was retired from Sears Roebuck and was a lifetime member fo the Grapeland Order of the Eastern Star. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her 3 brothers, Ben, Allie, and Guy Bridges. Her survivors include her daughter, Jan Searcy Cherry of Converse, her granddaughter Sherri Cherry Jackson and her husband Ray of Schertz, Texas, and her grandson Kris and his wife Heather Cherry of La Vernia, Texas. Great-grandchildren are Neal, Amanda, Mark and Eileen Jackson of Schertz, and Kolton Cherry of La Vernia, two sisters, Johnnie and husband Virgil Holton of Lexington, Texas and Bernice Deal of Grapeland and one step-brother, Owen and wife Nell Brown of Lake Jackson, Texas. Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 14, 2004 at the First United Methodist Church of Elkhart conducted by the Rev. Alan Van Hooser and the Grapeland OES. Interment will be at the Garden of Memories in Elkhart. Pallbearers will be members of the Elkhart Masonic Lodge. The family will receive friends at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home Friday, August 13, 2004 from 6 to 8 p.m. The family wishes to thank all of the many dedicated surgeons, doctors, nurses, and staff of Brooke Army Medical Center for their compassion and their caring during Nana's hospitalization. A special heartfelt thanks to Reava Nurse, Nana's caretaker for the past 16 months. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association, or the American Diabetes Foundation. Nana will live forever in our hearts and our memories.
