Bio
Anna was a Blue River Quaker until 5 Sept 1840 when she was "disf mcd" which means she was dismissed or disowned for marrying contrary to discipline, i.e., she married William Standish, 3 Dec 1837, who was not a Quaker. In 1814, a couple years before Anna was born, her family moved from Back Creek, Randolph County, South Carolina to Washington County, IN, per History of Washington . . . Counties, Gresham, 1889. Per Hx of Wash. Co., IN 1916, her family "came from Back Creek Quaker meeting to Lick Creek near Paoli in 1814" page 437. Anna Standish's death was recorded in the Mill Creek Church of Christ Record Book, which was copied by Lulie Davis. She was only 37 when she died, cause unknown. I have obtained from the Indiana State Library a copy of The Christian Record, for June 1853, which publication by Rev. James Mathes, contains a submitted death notice by William Standish, the husband of Anna Maudlin Standish. The following is that notice: Transcription of text "WASHINGTON Co. Ind. May 29th 1853. Bro. Mathes:--It becomes my painful duty to give you the melancholy news of the death of my beloved companion, ANNA STANDISH; who fell asleep in Jesus, on the 30th day of April last. She has left a heart-broken companion, and a large circle of friends, and five children to mourn the loss of a sister, a companion, and christian mother. She joined the christain (sic) church about ten years ago. Whether shall I go for comfort. Let me rest in hope of that bright day when beauty shall spring from her prison of clay, when the sound of the trumpet and the voice of the Son of God shall wake the sleeping saints, to receive their rewards; may we all be prepared for that solemn day when we shall meet to be parted no more forever, Yours in hope of immortality. Wm Standish" I would also point out that the date on the grave, as best as I can see from the picture, seems to be "30", not "3". [Notes of Linda Standish, direct descendant]
