Herbert E. Kovar passed away peacefully at his daughter's home in Virginia on Thursday, July 5, 2007. The Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, July 9, at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor, Texas. The Celebration of Life Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, at SS. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Granger. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Herbert was born in Taylor and lived in Granger. He graduated from Granger High School. After graduation he joined the U.S. Air Force. He spent time at Chanute AFB in Illinois, then Goose Bay Labrador in Canada. He also spent time in Alaska and Hawaii before finishing his tour in Abilene. After his discharge from the Air Force, he moved to Austin to work as a machinist. During his five years in Austin, he met and married Norma J. Waxler. They moved to Houston and had two children, John L. Kovar and Katherine K. Kovar. Herbert was very involved in his children's little league sports, managing and coaching for four years. He continued his career as a machinist in Houston until he retired in 2000. At that time, he and his wife returned to Granger, where he served as president of the Holy Cross Cemetery Committee for two years. Herbert was preceded in death by his father, Johnny H. Kovar, his mother, Bernice (Pekar) Kovar, his brother Ted L. Kovar, and his wife Norma J. Kovar. He is survived by two children, his son John L. Kovar and wife Susan of Washington State, and his daughter Katherine K. Kovar and husband Ricky Kovar of Virginia; five granddaughters, Jacquelyn Kovar, Vanessa Kovar, Sarah Griffith and husband Eddie, Rachel Traywick and Tiffany Kovar; two great-grandsons, Cameron Traywick and Blake Griffith; a brother, Donald Kovar; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
