Bio

Catherine Frances "Aunt Kate" was the sixth child of Patrick and Mary Smith. In the 1960's, her younger brother, Michael G. Smith wrote a Family History biographical sketch of his parents, Patrick and Mary Smith and of each of his siblings. The following is what he wrote about Catherine... Catherine Smith was born in San Augustine, Texas on June 28, 1884. As her mother died Apr 13, 1899 she acted as head of the household and mother of the younger children and was greatly beloved by the whole family. She married Clifford J. Childers on Feb 16, 1904. Kate (as we all called her) and C. J. had 5 children (listed below). They farmed and ran a hardware store in San Augustine, Tex where they resided all their lives. C. J. died in 1953 and Kate died June 1955. Their children were: John Smith Childers, died 1975 Clifford J. Childers, Jr., resides in Corpus Christi, Texas Michael Childers, resides in Corpus Christi Mary Hicks, married to Dr. Jewel Hicks, who died 1987 Catherine Holt, married to Bill Holt and reside in College Station, Texas.
