Johnny Lane Rankin, 82, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2020. Burial will be at Elm Branch Cemetery. Johnny was born on December 9, 1937, in Rankin, Texas, to the late Forrest Marshall and Josephine (Bethune) Rankin. In 1958, he joined the United States Army and served his country proudly until his honorable discharge in 1964. Johnny was married to Patsy Ann Kitchens and they raised two children, David Lane and Leah Annette, and their “other daughter” Debbie. On July 23, 1994, he married Trudy Budai. Johnny retired from Ennis Business Forms in 1987 after 27 years of service as a film developer. He then went to work for Ellis County Pct. 2 until 2007 as a Heavy Equipment Operator and he was the owner of B & R Grocery in Bardwell until its closing in 2002. Johnny was preceded in death by his grandchildren, Colt Wolfe and Jasmine Wolfe; brothers, Fred Rankin and his wife, Mary, and Bill Rankin and his wife, Helen; sisters, Frances “Chic” Hoyle and her husband, Gabe, and Hazel “Polly” Rankin; in-laws: Linda Rankin, Larry Griesenbeck, Leslie Lott, Donald Jay Langley, and Albert and Ruby Budai; nieces and nephews: Kathy Lynn Turner, Mark Hoyle, Ricky Rankin, and Jeffrey Lynn Rankin; and sister-in-law, Marcy Rankin. Survivors include his wife, Trudy Rankin; his children: David Rankin and wife, Melanie, Leah Hinchliffe and husband, Randy, Debbie Watson and husband, Lance, David Wolfe and wife, Stacy, Aaron Wolfe and wife, Daisy, Tracey Langley; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; siblings: Joe “Bink” Rankin and Jerry “Muff” Griesenbeck; along with a host of extended family and friends.
