Bio
Forrest Joe Rankin, 92, of Ennis, TX passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2024. Joe, or "Bink" as he was referred to by his family and friends, was born on July 13, 1932 in Rankin, Texas to Josephine and Forrest Rankin. After graduating from Ennis High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force at the age of 18. He proudly served as a Flight Engineer and is a veteran of the Korean War. He received several medals during his service, including, Korean Service Medal, UN Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and National Defense Service Medal, and was honorably discharged in 1954. He didn't speak much about his time in the Air Force, but he enjoyed reminiscing about sending his first allotment to his momma and how quickly she ran out to buy the biggest refrigerator she could find. On May 4, 1963, he married Marcy Pekar and they had a daughter and three sons together. Joe married Linda Poe on February 14, 2006 and they raised a blended family, loving each other's children as their own. Joe was a long-time employee of Ennis Business Forms then worked at Data Documents until he retired in 1996. He was a life-time member of the American Legion Post 361. He enjoyed playing golf, cheering on his Ennis Lions and fishing trips to Rockport with friends and family. Preceded in death are his parents, his daughter Kathy Lynn Turner, siblings Bill (Helen) Rankin, Hazel "Polly" Rankin, Frances "Chic" (Gabe) Hoyle, Fred (Mary) Rankin, Johnny (Trudy) Rankin, and Jerry (Larry) Griesenbeck, and his loving wife of 13 years, Linda Rankin. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 29, 2024 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at J.E. Keever Mortuary in Ennis. Memorial services will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024 at 10 a.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis. Graveside services will follow in Elm Branch Cemetery, Bardwell, Texas under the direction of J. E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
