Bio

Charles Joseph Stanislav, 91, Julia’s Valley Manor, died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1993, at a Sioux City hospital. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Monsignor Thomas Donahoe officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30-8 p.m. at the Larkin Morningside Funeral Home. There will be a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Stanislav was born Dec. 6, 1901, in Valparaiso, Neb., the son of Frank and Frances (Benes) Stanislav. He married Agnes I. Meduna Jan. 22, 1924, at St. John’s Church In Weston, Neb. The couple farmed in rural Weston. In 1930, they moved to the Blencoe, Iowa, area. They also farmed in the Sloan and Hornick area and moved to Sioux City in 1946. He was employed by the Hansen Paint and Glass Co. until 1967, when he retired after 20 years of service. Mr. Stanislav was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the parish Mens Club, Holy Name Society and Carmel Guild. He also was a member of the Teamsters Union. Survivors include his wife; four sons and their wives, Leonard E. and Emma Lou of Onawa, Iowa, Ben and Betty of Omaha, Charles J. Jr. and Pat of Rockville, Md., and Ivan T. and Mary of Dearborn, Mich.; daughters and their husbands, Bernice and Jack Fitzpatrick, Monica Wiggs, Frances and Kenneth O’Dea, Kathy and Jim Powell, all of Sioux City, Rita and William Horan of Sun City, Calif., Alice and Herbert Cederberg of Little Canada, Minn., Linda Schroeder of Grand Island, Neb., Agnes Phister of Buffalo, N. Y.; 57 grandchildren; and 47 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Virginia; grandsons, David Wiggs and Michael Phister; granddaughters Patricia Phister and Mary E. Stanislav; great-granddaughter, Amy Jean Stanislav; five brothers, John, Frank, Joseph, George and Louis; and two sisters, Maggie Fiedler and Anna Stanislav. Pallbearers will be Bill Horan, Jack Fitzpatrick, Kenny O’Dea, Herb Cederberg, Jim Powell and David Wiggs. The Sioux City Journal, January 29, 1993
