Judy (Jewel) Hoelscher, a long time resident of Alice, died on July 17, 2007 in Spring, Texas north of Houston after a short illness. She was 79 years old. One of six children, Mrs. Hoelscher was born on January 28, 1928 in Mirando City, Texas to Frank and Pearl Hughes. The family moved from Mirando City to Freer, Texas where Judy attended Freer High School. While at Freer High School, Judy was honored to lead the High School marching band as a Majorette. Judy recalled many happy memories of her friends of Freer High School. The classmates stayed close and continued to meet at the Lyle Ranch outside of Freer on an annual basis. Mrs. Hoelscher married long time Alice resident, Lawrence Hoelscher (deceased) in Alice and began a lifelong adventure of raising a family while working for Harkins and Company. Judy was a regular participant in Camp Fire Girl meetings, Little League baseball games, and dance recitals at Beverly Miller's School of Dance. Mrs. Hoelscher was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence; her sister, June Moseley; and her brother, Warren Hughes. Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl (Doug) Beu of League City, Texas; her son, Larry (Dee Dee) Hoelscher of Tomball, Texas; one sister, Joe Ann (Albert) Day of Alice, Texas; two brothers, J.B. Hughes of Corpus Christi, Texas and Frank (Lucille) Hughes of McAllen, Texas; four grandchildren: Jocelyn and Erica Beu of League City, and Jamison and Christopher Hoelscher of Tomball, Texas; and one great-grandchild, Samantha King of League City. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Franki of Alice along with numerous nieces and nephews. The family will be receiving friends on Jul 19 & 20 at Holmgreen Mortuary in Alice.
