Bio

Gruntorad, Donald Dwayne was born in Overton, NE to Henry and Susie Gruntorad. After high school, he was drafted into the US Army and served in the 82nd Airborne for two years. Donald married the love of his life, Doriene, and spent 57 years together in Mesa and Gilbert, AZ. He enjoyed visiting family and friends, traveling, camping, riding horses and playing slot machines. He retired after 32 years as a Quality Control Inspector for the Aerospace division of Garrett. Donald spent another 10 years running his grading and clean-up service in the metro Phoenix area. His love of animals was ever present in his life as he raised cattle, horses and goats. In his later years, he started a Boer goat farm and enjoyed kidding goats throughout the kidding seasons. Donald loved all the family and friends who would come by to visit and see what new animals he had on his farm. Donald was surrounded by family and friends and Paco as he peacefully passed away at home in Gilbert, AZ on March 16, 2018. Survivors include his three daughters, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, an older brother and younger sister. As a neighbor stated, the captain will be greatly missed. Visitation and rosary will be Thursday, March 22, 2018 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery and Funeral Home, Mesa, AZ. Catholic Mass will be Friday, March 23, 2018 at 11:00 at Mary Magdalene Catholic Church Gilbert, AZ with graveside services to follow at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery and Funeral Home. Donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower, Phoenix, AZ 85014. Memories and condolences may be made by visiting the online obituary guest book.
