Bio

Robert L. Gruntorad, 70, of Gilbert, Ariz., died Saturday, April 23, 2011 at Banner Dessert Hospital in Mesa, Ariz. He had been diagnosed with brain cancer two weeks prior to his death. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday, April 27, at 10 a.m. at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Gilbert. Rosary was recited at 9:30 a.m., prior to the mass. Robert will be cremated and interment will be at a later date at Queen of Heaven Cemetery. Robert was born Nov. 30, 1940, to Henry J. and Susie (Thinnes) Gruntorad. He grew up in the Overton community, graduating from Overton High School. On July 21, 1962 he married Luanne Stieb. To this union four children were born; Theresa Ann, Michael R., Scott L., and John J. Robert worked at Central Alfalfa, both at the mill and as a bookkeeper. He and Luanne lived in Denver for about a year while he attended Parks School of Business. Upon returning to Lexington, he worked as a bookkeeper for Hennek's before going to Central Alfalfa as their bookkeeper. Robert also was a partner in Hillside Farms before moving to Gilbert. He had his own business of construction clean up in Gilbert for a short period of time. He worked 10 years for Garrett/Allied Signals as a machinist in pre-assembly. After a stroke in 1994, he went on disability retirement. He is survived by his wife, Luanne; sons, Michael (Rose) Gruntorad, Scott Gruntorad, John (Tanya) Gruntorad; grandchildren, Nicole, Tucker, Trevor Meyer, Allison, Tanner, Lindsey, Lacey, Kelsey and Trenton; brother, Donald (Doriene) Gruntorad of Gilbert, Ervin (Lois) Gruntorad of Lemoore, Calif.; sister, Kathryn (Don) Lessig and sister-in-law, Karen, all of Lexington, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his daughter, Theresa; parents, Henry and Susie, brothers, Frances Dean, Joseph, Hank and sister and brother-in-law Agnes and Frank Tomasek. Queen of Heaven Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.
