Bio

Mrs. Edith Miles Murphy, of 628 Rutherford St., died at her home at 10:40 p.m. Wednesday. A native of Downsville, Mrs. Murphy had been a resident of Shreveport for 25 years. She was a retired school teacher and had taught at Atkins and Barret Elementary schools. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, an honorary member of Alpha Delta Kappa and Kappa Kappa Iota, honorary teacher's sororities, and the Woman's Department Club. Survivors include six sisters, Mrs. Elmer Roy, Downsville, Mrs. John Mitchell, Jackson, Miss., Mrs. F. K. Ham, Monroe, Mrs. J. L. Wade, Arcadia, and Mrs. Mattie Mimms and Mrs. Ruth Brazzil, both of Shreveport. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Dr. James Middleton, pastor of First Baptist Church, and Dr. W. H. Sims, retired Baptist minister, will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Park. Pallbearers will be Paul Richardson, James Richardson, James Wade, Miles Mims, R. L. Taylor Jr., Miles Murphy, James Sullivan and Alvin Brazzil.
