Bio
Helen Hartman, 96, of Le Mars, formerly of Sioux City, died Thursday, April 27, 1989, in a Le Mars nursing home after a brief illness. Services will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Dale Stone, pastor of the Hinton United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday. She was born Helen Kovarna in Liberty Township of Plymouth County on May 22, 1892. She married John Hartman in Liberty Township on Feb. 10, 1915. He died Aug. 4, 1980, in Sioux City. The couple had farmed northeast of Hinton, Iowa, for 30 years before retiring and moving to Sioux City in 1945. She had also worked for the Jackson and Warrior hotels. Mrs. Hartman was a Methodist. Survivors include a daughter, Iona Trometer of Hinton; a son, Darvin Hartman of Merrill, Iowa; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded by a daughter, Viola; five brothers, Jim, George, John, Harry and Adolph; and two sisters, Annie Flannery and Mayme Helt. The Sioux City Journal, April 29, 1989
