Jim Svatek Advocate News Service WHARTON — Jim Svatek, 88, of Wharton, died Wednesday morning at an El Campo hospital following a brief illness. A rosary and wake will be held at 7 30 p.m. Thursday at Wharton Funeral Home chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton with the Rev. Joe Vrana officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Visitation will begin at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Thursday. Born May 22, 1901, in Czechoslovakia to the late Albert and Mary Riha Svatek, he married Emilia Elizabeth Kurtz in Shiner on Oct. 16, 1923. He was a retired farmer. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton, Knights of Columbus Council 3262, KJT Society and the Nocturnal Adoration Society. Besides his wife, Mr Svatek is survived by two daughters, Benita McBride of Galveston and Verna Hubenak of El Campo; three sons, Henry Svatek and Paul Svatek, both of Wharton, and Victor Svatek of Pasadena , two sisters, Lillie Pavolsky of Sealy and Annie Heimann of Wharton, two brothers, John Svatek of Needville and Frank Svatek of Taiton; 21 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Steve Svatek, Dennis Svatek, Chris Svatek, Douglas Svatek, Vic Alan Svatek, Michael McBride, Tim McBride, Ricky Hubenak and Tommy Hubenak.
