Stanley John Sindelar, Sr. was born on August 18, 1920, to Mike C. and Mary (Svitak) Sindelar on a farm in Stanton County. He attended District 41 School and graduated from the 8th grade. He helped his Dad and brothers farm in those early years and took ownership of the Mike C. Sindelar farm in 1944. The farm has been in the family over 100 years and Stanley was given the Nebraska Pioneer Farm Award in 2015. On June 6, 1944, he married Wilma Vcelik at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge, Nebraska. They were blessed and raised 5 sons and 4 daughters on this farm. Stanley lived on the farm until age 95. He raised crops and livestock and was honored as a “50-year Shipper of Cattle and Hogs to the Omaha Stockyard.” He continued to farm with two of his sons into his 80’s. Red International Harvester equipment was his pride and joy. In December 1944, Stanley passed his Army physical and was drafted. Before he was able to serve his military duties, World War II ended and he returned home. Stanley served as President for the Stanton County Telephone Company for 12 years and helped repair the phone lines many times following winter and summer storms. His hobbies included fishing trips to South Dakota, pheasant hunting and trapping with his sons. He also enjoyed playing the Taroks card game until his death. He enjoyed listening to and playing polka music on his button accordion. He especially enjoyed sharing stories about farming and all the changes from the original horse era to today’s modern methods.
