Hal F. Wilson, 78, of Grand Island died on Friday, April 12, 2019. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Cathedral. The Rev. James Golka will be the celebrant. Burial of ashes will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Military honors will be rendered by the U.S. Army and United Veterans Honor Guard. Hal was born May 28, 1940, at Murdo, S.D., the son of Hal and Lila (Williams) Wilson. As a young boy his family moved to Wood River and he graduated from Wood River High School in the class of 1958. He served in the U.S. Army. Following the military Hal was employed by the West Company in Omaha. He then attended barber school. In 1961 he was united in marriage to Marianne Ptacnik at Council Bluffs, Iowa. They made their home in Grand Island. Hal worked for and later purchased the Drive In Barbers. In 1983 he opened Hair Options, located at Ninth and Eddy Streets. He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and the Knights of Columbus. Some on his enjoyments included camping and attending his grandkids' activities. Those left to cherish his memory include daughters Jane (Lyle) Stovall of Hastings, Chris (John) Wichman of Minnesota, Teresa Peyrot of Papillion and Joan (Gregg) Sutcluffe of Papillion; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; brother Clair (Judy) Wilson of Chapman; sisters Ellen Frost, Phyllis (Bill) Hill and Yvonne Davis; sister-in-law Judy (Cliff) Klein and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marianne, who passed on October 15, 2015; his parents and brothers Stan and Bobby.
