Decatur Herald & Review 6/30/1966 Funeral Services for Mrs.Lafayette B. (Sarah Elizabeth) Ray, 66, of 1010 N. Woodford St. will be at 1:30 pm Saturday in the J. J. Moran & Sons funeral home. Mrs.Ray died at 12:25 pm Wednesday in Decatur and Macon county hospital after a two month illness. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery. Friends may call after 4pm Friday at the funeral home. Mrs.Ray was a housewife and resident of Decatur for the past 50 years. She was a member of the Wesley Holiness church. The daughter of Alex and Mary(Wright) Smothers, she was born July 12, 1899, in Lebanon, Ky. She married Lafayette B. Ray on June 7, 1947 in Decatur. Survivors include her husband, four sons, Eugene Gibbs and Russell Ray, both of Decatur,Walter and Richard Ray, both of Redondo Beach,Calif, three daughters, Mrs. Earl(Alice) Cheek Sr. of Santa Barbara, Calif, Marilyn Ray and Mrs. Ted (Bette) Kerr, both of Decatur, one brother, Elmer Smothers of Lebanon, Ky, 11 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, two sisters and one brother preceded her in death.
