Obituary for Julian D. Hargus "Zip" Julian D. Hargus "Zip", age 78, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at Capital Region Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born on March 13, 1940 in Jefferson City, Mo., the son of Clyde and Ruby Mae (Childress) Hargus. He was married on May 8, 1963 in Dillon, South Carolina to Linda Lou Metzgar. A lifelong resident of Missouri, Julian was a 1957 graduate of Marshfield High School he then went on to earn his degree in Psychology in 1975 from Missouri State University. Julian proudly served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged as a Specialist 5 in 1966. He was employed by the State of Missouri as an Area Supervisor with the Employment Security division. Julian dedicated 35 years prior to his retirement in 1999. He was a man of faith, holding membership at the Marshfield First Christian Church. He was also a member of the Lion’s Club and the National Rifle Association. Julian was a true patriot, his favorite colors were those of our flag and he flew it proudly. He enjoyed being outdoors soaking up nature, in his younger years he loved spending weekends fishing and camping. He was a gifted craftsman in the wood shop, had an impressive coin collection and had a travel bag ready to head to Branson, Mo., Michigan, Marshfield, Mo. or anywhere else the family may decide to travel. Julian had a healthy sense of humor and enjoyed making others laugh. He looked forward to family gatherings where everyone was together sharing meals. He was known to tell a story or two and always gripped everyone’s attention. To Julian, there was no greater gift than the love of family. Survivors include: his wife of 55 years, Linda Hargus; two children, Diana Hargus (Lisa) of Jefferson City, Mo. and Robert Hargus of Jefferson City, Mo.; his brother, Stan Hargus (Linda) of Seattle, Washington; his sister, Becky Yeubanks (Mike) of Springfield, Mo.; three grandchildren, Becky McCarthy (Andy), Taylor Hargus and Tanner Hargus; and two great grandchildren, Mackenzie McCarthy and Miles McCarthy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Ruby and his sister, Clydene Reznicek. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm Saturday, January 19, 2019 with his memorial service following at 3:00 pm Saturday in the Freeman Chapel. Military honors will follow his service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Central Missouri Honor Flight 1400 Forum Blvd., Ste. 7-A, Box 334, Columbia, Mo. 65203
