Source: Watts Funeral Home Suggested edit: Services to celebrate the remarkable life of Betty Lee Tabler-Shellenberger, 94, of Pauls Valley, OK are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 19, 2018, in the Chapel of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Marietta, OK with Brother Roy Shave officiating. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta, OK. Born in Rush Springs, OK on May 20, 1924, Betty Lee Tabler, was the only daughter of Lee Texas Tabler and Vera Graham Tabler. Betty passed away Friday, December 14, in the Washita Valley Living Center, Pauls Valley. As a young girl, Betty's family made their homes in Thackerville and Marietta, OK. She graduated in 1942 from Tulare High School, Tulare, CA. Betty travelled from California to join her fiancé, David Shellenberger, stationed in Tacoma, WA. There they married on August 14, 1943. The couple raised their two children, David Lee and Lillyn in Marietta. In 1955, after 12 years of marriage, Betty bravely ventured to California with her two children after being offered an entry position as an operator with the Pacific Telephone Company. Betty's excellent work ethic proved to be invaluable when the company promoted her as one of the first women engineers, at a time dominated by men. During her employment, she was an active member of the company's Pioneer Group. As she worked her way up the corporate ladder, she fulfilled her lifelong dream of traveling the world. After a long and successful career, Betty retired in 1982 as a proud, independent business woman and shareholder from the Pacific-Bell Telephone Company, currently known as AT&T. Wishing to be near her growing family, she moved to Texas for 10 years before permanently settling in Pauls Valley. Betty, a gifted seamstress, also enjoyed crocheting and knitting. In addition to being an avid reader, working multiple crossword puzzles, baking special occasion cakes, making fudge, she would frequent garage sales and antique stores. She loved hosting family get-togethers. Her radiant smile and kind heart will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. Betty was a lifelong, dedicated member of the Church of Christ. Preceding her in death were her parents; son, David Lee Shellenberger; and three brothers, Jonteele Tabler, Frank L. Tabler, and Glenn Everett Tabler. She is survived by her daughter, Lillyn Norton and husband Jerry of Pauls Valley; daughter-in-law, Dianna Shellenberger of Stephenville, TX; sister-in-law, Elaine Tabler of Marietta; grandchildren, Tisha Sharp and husband Walt of Foreman, AR, Brandon Shellenberger of Oklahoma City, OK, Jerlyn McKay and husband Steve of Ardmore, OK, and Scott Shellenberger and wife Amber of Greenville, TX; nine great-grandchildren; special niece, Julie Tabler of Pauls Valley; special nephew, Stephen Tabler of Shreveport, LA; as well as an extensive list of other relatives and friends. Serving as casket bearers are nephews, Stephen Tabler, Col. Hiram Tabler, Randy Tabler, and Lee Tabler; grandson, Scott Shellenberger; and son-in-law, Jerry Norton. Honorary bearers are Steve McKay, Walt Sharp, and Jerry Iverson as well as great-grandsons, Lucas Sharp and Ben McKay. Time of visitation for family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family suggests memorial contributions made to Betty's favorite charities, Tipton Children's Home or the Westview Boys' Home. Contributor: Phil and Donna (Stricklan) Whitaker (4308835)
