Midland - Authula "Jonnie" Harris, left this world for her new home in the early morning hours of May 4th, 2007. She was 86 years young. Jonnie was born Authula Atherene Johnson in Paris, Texas on May 24, 1920. Her parents were Mabel Claire and William Wade Johnson. Jonnie married James Truman Harris on August 4th, 1945 in Midland, Texas. Truman preceded her in death on Jan. 19th, 1981. Jonnie is survived by her four children: daughter, Ann Praisnar and her husband Adam of Midland; daughter, Anita "Becky" Perron and her husband Jim of Anderson, California; son, Forest Taylor and his wife Cathy of Decatur; and son, Jim Harris and his wife Beth of Odessa; nine grandchildren include: Jane Houston, Lexie Latimer, Jeff Latimer, Corey Perron, Shannon Perron, Charley Taylor, Lance Taylor, Ami Harris and Emily Olliff; eleven great-grandchildren include: JoLynn Brauchi, Jordan Latimer, Tyler Latimer, Jennifer Brown, Jayna Lower, Cameron Perron, Clint Taylor, Erin Taylor, Trace Taylor, Colin Taylor and Aden Harris-Herrera; and three great-great-grandchildren include: Holly and Cole Brauchi and Payton Brown. Jonnie was also preceded in death by her mother, father as well as three brothers, Bud, Gerald and Buck, and three sisters, Lillian, Marjorie, and Wahnita. She had a million dollar smile and a heart of gold. She loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren with a passion. She didn't just say "I love you" she said "I love you dearly." She will be missed dearly and spoken of and thought of daily. She was a great example of how life was to be lived, and how people were to be treated. Her church home was Golf Course Road Church of Christ and she was an active member of the Deaf group there. She was also a member and worker for the National Deaf group the HLAA (the Permian Basin Chapter). She was active in Midland VFW Post 4149, named in honor of her husband Truman's brothers, both killed in World War II, Temple and Weldon Harris. She spent the working part of her life operating several cafés in Midland, all known as Jonnie's Café. She retired from Parkview Hospital as head dietician after nearly 15 years of service. In retirement she helped her son Jim Harris in his fireplace business (The Energy Depot) as well as his firework business (Truckload Fireworks). She taught her children a great work ethic by example with a "It will be okay, never give up" attitude. She attended Midland College at age 67 and received her GED in May of 1987. She also took classes at Howard County Junior College in 1989. In lieu of flowers a contribution in memory of Jonnie Harris may be sent to H.L.A.A. (Hearing Loss Association of America) 4618 Somerset Lane, Odessa, Texas 79761. The family will receive friends at Ellis Funeral Home Sunday, May 6, 2007 between the hours of 3:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. Funeral services have been scheduled for 3:00 P.M. Monday, May 7, 2007 at Golf Course Road Church of Christ. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
