Norma Fletcher was born March 4, 1920 in Denver, CO to Thomas and Ruth (Sage) Hughes. She acquired her education in many different locations as her family traveled to Denver, Kansas and Oklahoma in her early years. She also attended Paramount School south of Long Pine with her education ending at the 10th grade level in Long Pine, NE. She was always saddened that she could not finish her high school education, as she really enjoyed school. At an early age she always helped with the chores, especially the cattle. She would take care of the herding and mending the fences for her dad. She loved all animals. In her final days she was very sad she could not be home with her white cat Little Kitty and her little dog Pupsy. She was a very strong and unique woman. She loved her music and tap dancing and would often be heard singing her favorite hymns and songs while she did her daily chores. She also was an avid reader of the Bible and was baptized into the Seventh Day Adventist church. She married Francis D. Fletcher on February 12, 1945 at Ainsworth, NE while he was home on leave. They made their first home in Couer d’Alene, Idaho, then moving back to the Carlson Ranch near Koshopah in Brown County before their first son was born. After the blizzard of 1949, they moved to a farm in Sherman County in the Wiggle Creek School community south of Loup City, NE. In the spring of 1965, they moved to the Bloody Run School area near Hazard, NE, retiring in the community of Ravenna in 1990. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother opening her home to many. She always welcomed visitors and her home was always a gathering place for her nieces, nephews and other friends and family. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Zella McCloughan, and L. Geneva Saar, her brothers T. Donald, and Ralph Hughes, plus 3 other siblings who died at birth, her husband Francis Fletcher, daughter Sheila Shaw, great grandson Derek Hall, daughters-in-law Diane and Betty Fletcher.
