Bio

Evan Barta, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away Friday, January 19, 2018, at the age of 90. He was born at home in Fowlerton, TX on June 22, 1927, to Anton and Rosie (Cernoch) Barta. He joined the Navy during World War II and served his country for 2 years ranked Third Class Petty Officer Ships Cook. Evan loved to fish and hunt, and he passed on that love to his children and grandchildren. He operated heavy equipment in the oil field until the early 1980's when he retired. After his retirement he found great joy in working in his wood shop and having a small garden in the back yard. Evan was known to many as Big E when he worked in his son's business. His grandchildren affectionally called him Popo or Grampa. Evan was an active member of VFW Post 6970 - Poteet for many years. He was also very active in SPJST Lodge 202 - Jourdanton. Evan is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, MaryAnn (Schrank) Barta; son, Jeff Barta and wife Staci; daughter, Valerie Barta; brothers, John Barta and wife Rosie and Henry Barta and wife Ethelene and sisters, Elizabeth Fields and Dorothy Offield. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Walter Andrew Mazur, Phillip Anthony Barta and his fiancé, Caroline Vance, Tyler Jones and wife Lauren, Veronica Ashton Barta, Dalyn Smith and husband Alex, Stephen Anthony Mazur and girlfriend, Ashley Slack and Travis Reid Barta and wife Virginia and great-granddaughter Charlotte Louise Barta. Even is preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Rosie Barta and brothers, Anton Jr. and George Barta.
