Adopted by Eugene C. & Irma (Ellis) Leggett. Married to: 1. Rosalie T. Blaha on 10-31-1953 at Ord, NE. 2. Carold (Kwiatkowski) Grove on 6-30-1963. US Army - 1955/1956. He attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Kearney State College. Kerry was a member of a third-generation newspaper family and through the years, he had learned and managed all avenues of the family business. While serving as editor in 1965, The Ord Quiz was winner of the Class 4 General Excellence contest. His popular personal column, 'Kerry On' Kerry Leggett, won him several awards, including Best Personal Column First Place, Class C, 1978, in weekly newspapers of 2,500 or more circulation On Jan. 1, 1966, Kerry purchased controlling interest in Quiz Graphic Arts from his mother. He assumed management of the entire printing-engraving-publishing operation until selling the business in 2000. He served the Nebraska Press Association as a member of the Board of Directors, President of the Nebraska Press Association in 1967 and President of the Nebraska Association of Commercial Printers. Kerry E. Leggett ORD Kerry E. Leggett, 73, of Ord, former owner and publisher of The Ord Quiz and Quiz Graphic Arts, Inc., died Friday, April 20, 2007, at the Valley County Health System in Ord. A celebration of life memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Ord United Methodist Church. The Rev. Sherry Sklenar will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Ord City Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Ord V.F.W. Post 7029 and American Legion Post 38. The family will receive friends at the Ord Memorial Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a time of sharing at 7:30 p.m. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Leggett was born Nov. 19, 1933, at Kansas City, Mo. Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Carol; his children and their spouses, Kip and Hisako Leggett of Chula Vista, Calif., Kay Hamilton of Lincoln, Julie and Randy Wilson of Ord, Susan and Jim Watson of Lincoln, Sheri and Kirk Anderson of Rio Rancho, N.M., and Shannon and Mike Urbanovsky of Lincoln; and a brother, Ted Leggett of Pine River, Minn. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a brother-in-law, Fred Kwiatkowski of Las Vegas. Immediately following his birth in Kansas City, Kerry was adopted by Eugene C. and Irma (Ellis) Leggett of Ord. His childhood days were spent in Ord, where he attended school. In his off hours, he played and later worked at the Quiz office not a lot but just enough to get some "printer's ink" coursing through his veins. In the summertime, he loved being with his family at their cabin on Middle Cullen Lake near Nisswa, Minn. He attended Ord Public Schools, except for the 11th grade, when he attended Wentworth Military Academy at Lexington, Mo., during the 1949-50 school year. He graduated from Ord High School in 1951. After graduation, he attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Kearney State College. Kerry lived all of his life in Ord with the exception of 1955-56, when he served in the U.S. Army, 3rd Armored Division at Fort Knox, Ky., where he served as photographer in the Signal Corps. On Oct. 31, 1953, he was united in marriage to Rosalie T. Blaha at Ord. Four children were born to this union: Kip Alan, Kay Marie, Julie Lynn and Ann Theresa, who died in infancy. On June 20, 1963, Kerry Leggett was united in marriage to Carol (Kwiatkowski) Grove. To this union three children were raised: Susan Claire, Sheryl Lea and Shannon Kay. He was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous and had more than 48 years of sobriety. He served as the Area 41 delegate to the World Service Conference of Alcoholics Anonymous. Much of his time was spent speaking to church and school groups on the problems of alcoholism. Kerry continued to be involved in church, civic and community organizations. He was a member of the Ord United Methodist Church, a charter member of Ord Elks Club No. 2371, past president of Ord Chamber of Commerce and served for years as an Ambassador to AKSARBEN. He loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, especially through the Nebraska Sandhills: "It was peaceful," he said. He enjoyed golf, music, photography, working crossword puzzles, singing with the Loup Valley Harmonizers, reading, and the outdoors. Kerry had been in declining health for several years prior to his death. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter, Ann Theresa.
