Bio

Zola Marie Hanna (Bonde) Zola M. Hanna, 81, formerly of Rupert, passed away, Monday, May 7, 2018 at her home in Eagle after a year long battle with cancer. Zola was born on March 8, 1937 in Emmett to Elvin and Doris Bonde. She was the youngest of 2 children. Zola worked for her mom at Sander's Fountain, while attending high school. She graduated from Emmett High School in 1955 and married the love of her life, Merle Hanna, later that year. They were married 52 years. Merle and Zola moved to Coeur d'Alene, where Merle attended watch-making school. Their daughter, Roni Marie, was born the following year. After completing watch-making school, they moved to Twin Falls where their son, Chris, was born. Merle and Zola purchased Hanna's Jewelry in Rupert, which would be their home for the next 51 years. Their youngest child, Julie, was born in 1962. Zola was a housewife while the kids were young and later joined Merle in the Jewelry Store. She was known for her great cooking and never knew a stranger. She was an avid bridge player, Camp Fire Girls leader, home room mother, Lady Elk, and threw awesome birthday parties for her kids. She loved her dogs. Her dogs were beside her when she passed away, just as she would want it. Zola is survived by her daughter, Roni (Bob) Atkins; son, Chris Hanna; grandson, Nathan Burch; granddaughter, Kameron (Dustin) Aldous; great granddaughters, Ava and Addison Aldous, and brother, Arthur (Shirley) Bonde. She was preceded in death by her husband Merle, daughter Julie, and her parents. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be dearly missed. Zola's services will be held on Monday, May 14, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Eagle Christian Church, 100 Short Lane, Eagle, ID 83616. Arrangements are under Bowman Funeral Parlor. Donations can be made to the Idaho Humane Society, 4775 W Dorman St., Boise, ID 83705. Idaho Statesman, Friday, May 11, 2018
