Joseph J. Slovacek, 89, passed away on Monday, April 2, 2018, in Dallas, Texas. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Joseph was born in Bardwell, Texas, to the late Louis C. and Frances (Belha) Slovacek. He grew up in the Ennis Area and attended Palmer schools. He went to Arlington State College for four years where he earned a certificate in engineering. On September 27, 1958, he married Charlyne Agnes Spaniel and they made their home in Dallas for seven years before moving back to the farm near Ennis. He served his country proudly in the United States Army serving in Okinawa and was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He worked for LTV for seventeen years before retiring to the farm where he loved spending time working the land and ranching. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and formerly a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, SPJST, American Legion, VFW, and KJT. He served as precinct 122 Election Judge for many years. He was also elected to serve as the Farm Service Agency of Ellis County committee Representative. He was preceded in death by a son, David Slovacek; brother, Louis Slovacek; and sisters, Emily Marusak and Georgie Kozlovsky. Survivors include his wife, Charlyne Slovacek; son, Ronald Slovacek and his wife, Barbara; daughters, Donna Blankenship and her husband, Cord, and Yvonne Jander and her husband, Christopher; grandchildren: Christy Meaney, Katy Blankenship, Sarah Slovacek, Jason Jander, Jacob Jander, Adam Miller, Lindsay Whitman, and Shelly Miller; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Albin Slovacek and his wife, Lillian, and John Slovacek and his wife, Anna; sisters, Mary Foitek and her husband, Jerry, and Margaret Kozlovsky and her husband, Charles; sister-in-law, Delphie Slovacek; along with a host of extended family and friends.
