Funeral services for Edward Joseph (Ted) Murphy, 86, were conducted Tuesday, May 22, from St. Cecilia's Church in Hastings, with Father Raymond Hain officiating. Burial was in Parkview Cemetery at Hastings. Edward Murphy, the son of William and Mary Hollingsworth Murphy, was born April 6, 1893, at David City, and died Thursday May 17, 1979, at the Good Samaritan Village in Hastings. He recieved his education in the Greeley Public Schools. On April 20, 1914, he was united in marriage to Bridget Melia in Greeley. She died Nov. 30, 1952. He farmed near Greeley for several years and later operated the Ted and Tuck Tavern in Greeley for 16 years. He then moved to Hastings where he was employed by Hastings Pump Factory and the Hastings Land Roller Company for seven years. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Susie Morefield (sic) of Williams, Ariz., his fiance, Gladys Cook of Grand Island and several nieces and nephews.
