Pearl Hofmeyer, age 75, died Thursday, April 23, at the Sheldon Community Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness. Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 5th, at the First Reformed church in Sibley. Rev. Esdert Smidt was in charge of the service. Burial was in the Holman Township Cemetery at Sibley. Walton Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Pearl DeRoos was born January 17, 1895, at Hull, the daughter of John and Johanna Van Der Stoep DeRoos. She attended the Hull school as a child. On January 28, 1916, she was united in marriage to George Hofmeyer at Alton. They lived on various farms near Orange City, Matlock, Sanborn and Sibley. They retired in Sibley in 1958. Mrs. Hofmeyer was a member of the First Reformed church in Sibley. Mrs. Hofmeyer was preceded in death by her husband, one grandson, George Hofmeyer, Jr., her parents and one brother. She is survived by her son Howard, Sheldon, one daughter, JoAnn (Mrs. Donald Noble), Ocheyedan and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by five brothers and sisters: Jennie (Mrs. Otto VanZanbergen) of Sioux City, Bill DeRoos of Hastings, Nebraska, Charlie DeRoos of Rockwell, and Kathryn Zuccarella of Los Angeles, California. Music was provided by Mrs. Donald Raak accompanied by Mrs. Bruce Roelfs. Pallbearers were Howard Hofmeyer, Donald Noble, Eldon Hofmeyer, Lonnie Noble, Larry Kleinhesselink and David Ohme. -------------- Mr. and Mrs. Jake Hofmeyer attended the funeral Saturday of their sister-in-law, Mrs. Pearl Hofmeyer, 75, of Sibley, who passed away last week Wednesday evening in the Sheldon Hospital. Mrs. Hofmeyer had suffered a stroke two months ago while visiting relatives in California. Surviving are two children, Howard of Sheldon and Joan, Mrs. Don Nobel of Ocheydan, several grandchildren, two sisters, Jennie, Mrs. Otto Van Zanbergen of Sioux City and Kittie De Roos in San Francisco; one brother, Bill De Roos of Sanborn. Also attending the funeral, besides the Hofmeyers, were an aunt, Mrs. Hattie Vander Pol and other relatives from this area.
