Bio

Jennie Van Zandbergen, 101, formerly of Sioux City, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998 at Montclair Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Omaha, Neb. Services were held on Friday, Jan. 23 at 11:00 a.m.at First Convenant Church. The Rev. Phillip Rohler officiated. Burial was in Nassau Township Cemetery at Alton under the direction of the Nelson- Berger Northside Funeral Home. Jennie was born July 3, 1896 in Hull, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jan W. DeRoos. She married Otto Van Zandbergen on Feb. 11, 1915 in Alton. The couple farmed at Orange City and Sheldon. They retired from farming and moved to Sanborn and then to Sioux City in 1945. He died May 23, 1988. Mrs. Van Zandbergen was a member of First Convenant Church and the Priscilla Circle. Survivors include three sons and their wives, Kenneth and Betty and Ronald and Donna, all of Omaha, Neb. and Robert and Carolyn of Daphne, Ala.; a daughter, Sylvia Krohne of Norwalk, Calif.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Kathryn Cole of Los Angeles, Calif. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Janell B. Steele. -Obituary from The Sioux County Capital (1/29/1998)
