Conducting the services were the Rev. Calvin Berg of St, James, Minn., and the Rev. Woodrich of Melvin. Burial was in the Baker Township Cemetery at Melvin. Donald DeRoos was born February 16, 1911, at Alton, Iowa, the son of John W. and Johanna DeRoos. Donald DeRoos, at the age of seven, moved with his family to Sanborn, where he spent his boyhood and was graduated from high school. On April 27, 1931, Hannah Morkrid and Donald DeRoos were married at Sanborn, Iowa. To this union three children, Don Ray, Gordon, and James, were born. During world War II he was called into the Army and: served in Europe. Upon separation from the service, the family resided in Melvin, where he spent 12 years as a barber and part-time insurance agent. In 1957 the family moved to St James, Minnesota. Since that time Mr. DeRoos had been a career agent for Farmer's Mutual Insurance. Sharing the loving memories of Donald are his wife Hannah from St. James, Minn.; their sons, Don Ray of Mankato, Minn., Gordon of Texas, and James at home; and the grandchildren, Debbie, Greg, Reggie and Ricky. Also his sisters Jenny, (Mrs. Otto Van Zandbergen of Sioux City), Pearl (Mrs. George Hofmeyer of Sibley), and Kathryn Zucarello, Los Angeles, Cal.; and brothers, Win., of Sanborn, Tony of Hastings, Nebr., and Charles of Rockwell, Iowa; also a host of friends and other relative Page 3 of The Hartley Sentinel, published in Hartley, Iowa on Thursday, March 19th, 1959 It says that he is buried at Melvin but it really is Sanborn, Roseland Cemetery
