November 25, 1933 - February 26, 2014 Uptmor, Jr., George R. Born 11/25/33 died 2/26/14. Survived by his wife, Ruby Uptmor, their four children: Pete Uptmor, Ginger Tucker, Gordon Uptmor, Gail Garvey and two grandchildren Kelly Garvey & Shane Sparkman. Service will be held on 3/14/14 at St. Pius X Catholic Parish at 1:30 pm. George was a talented fiddle player with extensive experience in various styles of music such as Country, Cajun and Western Swing. George’s musical experience began at the age of 13. He would come in from the fields after working with his father and sit and listen to the radio, teaching himself how to play by ear. In his early years he worked with Charlie Adams, who recorded for both Columbia and Decca Records. While with Charlie’s band, they worked with Hank Williams Sr. on his last tour in Texas. George has backed up artists such as Ernest Tubb, Webb Pierce and many more, he has also played on a large number of recording sessions with top artists like Marty Robbins. He made several European tours with the Grand Ole Opry shows, Hank Thompson and “Box Car” Willie with whom he did a three year stint playing the theatres in Branson, MO. George has worked with Bob Wills and The Texas Playboys, Rowe Brothers, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson and Dewey Groom and the Texas Longhorns to name a few. He also played on the Johnnie High Show for a decade and made his footprint at the Aragon Ballroom. ARIA Cremation Service & Funeral Home
